Seen New Moon? What did you think?
23 November 2009 by Renee MoodieReuters reports that the Twilight sequel New Moon scored the third-biggest opening weekend of all time at the North American box office, as millions of young women swooned over the complex love triangle involving a high school girl, a vampire and a werewolf.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon earned an estimated $140.7-million during its first three days of release across the United States and Canada, closely held distributor Summit Entertainment said, crushing industry expectations.
In South Africa, the film had midnight screenings of New Moon at selected cinemas over the weekend. The film will screen once a day at 5.30pm on selected Nu Metro cinemas, from Sunday to Thursday, and officially opens on Friday November 27. Tonight movie writer Theresa Smith has seen the film and done a review (with trailer). Have you seen it? Tell us what you think? If you aren’t going to see it, tell us why not!

I saw it and in comparison to Twilight,, it was worlds apart and on a totally different level too,, I thought the director encapsulated the entire book with so much finesse and in such detail that i didnt think that any part of the Book got lost in translation.. Absolutely breathtaking,,, and i mean it!! the amount of times i had to remember how to breath was countless….
DieHard Twi-Fan!!!

I bought our tickets more than a month ago and saw it at the V & A on Friday. The excitement and feeling of euphoria was so great amongst Twi-hards of all ages. The movie was very different from the first, special effects were great but the soundtrack and the flow from the first movie was lacking. My vampire has lost his sparkle but has left the way open for Jacob to steal the show and boy did he from all the screams he got when he ripped off his tee for the first time. I have a mixed feeling, there were good and bad points for me but it won’t stop me from seeing it again. The best scenes for me was when Jacob phased to protect Bella from Paul and the fight between Feliz and Edward, now I can’t wait for Eclipse next year. I have to console myself with reading the books again. Thank you to Nu Metro for the posters we were given on arrival, maybe we can have the stars of the movie here next time??? (hint, hint)

I saw the midnight screening on Friday (thanks to Nu Metro), and it’s much better than Twilight. It has just the right amount of action, drama, comedy and romance. The bigger budget is evident as well as the new directing. For fans of the books, it sticks to the book a lot more than Twilight did and included all the important scenes. I was most impressed by Taylor Lautner’s acting (even more than his torso). He plays Jacob perfectly and really stands out above everyone else in this film. Definitely worth seeing, even the guys will enjoy this one.

To all of the Twilight/New Moon fans out there…..Vampires don’t sparkle in sunlight…they burst into flames and die!!! And……uhmmm…………….they don’t really exist!!!

Sparkle, if vampires don’t really exist then, uhmmm……. they don’t really burst into flames and die in the sun either!!! It’s called fantasy.

I think it\’s absolutely beautiful and so out of the ordinary!

Where to start… And unfortunately, this will be a bit of a rant, so be warned…
The film itself, in terms of a technical aspect, is alright, although the constant overuse of lense-flare is excrutiating. The CG work is average, and overall the feel of the whole thing conveys the mood of the film well.
Onto the acting and screenplay… This is where the movie falls horribly short. Dull, unconvincing actors, that either overdo, or simply dont act at all. The male lead basically just tries his best to be broody and mysterious (and fails), the female lead overplays the torn, depressed lover so much so i hoped she would just slit her wrists so we could all just move on. And the wolf bros are just fanservice, whos acting extends to making their pecs move, not too mention the tons of homoerotic overtones.
As far as the book is concerned, my major grievance is this… The vampire is an actual myth, from a corner of the world called Romania. Now, if you are going to write a book about vampires, never twist, distort and generally butcher an actual myth, just to suit your liking (and sales). Hell, the \’vampires\’ in twilight have more in common with fairies, both sparkle, and both live in the woods…
Now ladies, allow me suggest a truly amazing film if you are keen on vampires, it has lots of romance, brilliant actors, something to look at (tom cruise), is faithful to the myth, and has ZERO teen angst. Go to your local dvd store and pick up a copy of \’Interview with a vampire\’.
Rant end.
