Joost’s to-do list

5 November 2009 by Renee Moodie

So, call me extra cynical, but this is the list that former Springbok Joost van der Westhuizen keeps in his top pocket…

1. Deny everything about bad video. If that doesn’t work, go to point 2.

2. Stage dramatic and public stress-related collapse to see if public sympathy gets any better. If  doesn’t work, go to point 3.

3. Write book and confess all (book will make enough money to offset risks of other lost income). Make sure all media get their hands on the book.  Amor to stand by man.

So far so good. Now, what else is on that list?

4. Go to ground for a while.

5. Appear in public on a meaningful day (Christmas, Easter, something like that). (Memo to self: Check when Ray McCauley has a free day in the Rhema Church).  Do handwringing and footwashing and offering self to Lord. Ask everyone for forgiveness - the nation, Amor, the children.

6. If image restored, ask for Supersport job back.

7. Oh and … remember to pay the spin doctor.

Talk about spot on! I am so looking forward to seeing these very events unfold…

  2. Tim Says:

…and don’t forget the TV interviews with an onion in his top pocket for the tears!! Be interesting to see how much money he gets from the book.

  3. LVCPT Says:

Yes, that sound about accurate…….amazing the resources available to you at a time of a scandal that you can profit from!

They so badly want everyone to leave them alone in this torrid time, why are they ever so present in the media, voluntarily it would seem!

  4. jules Says:

He still needs to blame the devil. He might die in a horrible accident, South Africa will call him a hero and then we make a biased movie about him!! How about that?

  5. Blue Says:

    People,give him a break.Everyone makes mistake.

  6. Gareth Pike Says:

Could not have put it better. What really amazes me is how gullible and ready to ‘forgive’ people are - a lot of them seem to be christians, and i suppose Joost is ‘one of theirs’ and so he gets the benefit of the doubt. what nonsense. the guy did wrong, then he lied, now he’s playing the media like a fiddle and making money from the book. everyone should walk away, including his wife. especially his wife.

  7. Lyndol Says:

    8. Purchase some new onnies..

  8. Jenny Says:

The woman with the tell all are ????? They knew he was married and to who, but they still went ahead because ‘GUESS WHO I SLEPT WITH- AMOR HUSBAND’ they have cause hurt which they knew would happen. I just PRAY that they go for counseling and get through this and hopefully it will make them stronger.
Any woman that is a woman would not inflict such pain on children or their mothers.

  9. Minette Says:

Well, since both Amor and Joost lied to Joost’s ex wife about being in a relationship she should not be surprised that he did it again! Wake up and smell the coffee, Amor, you are cut from the same cloth as Joost.

  10. Alex Says:

Spot on. A movie called ‘Joost: From Hero to Zero’ or ‘Joostgate’ or ‘Joost: Stripped to the bone’ or whatever will appear in the near future. I also agree, the Christian community will forgive him, he will coin from his book and interviews and more than likely he will start his own talk show or become presenter on some ‘forgiveness show’. Celebraties are ruling the media!!!!!

  11. Steven Says:

many of the reporters in South Africa are like wild dogs, ready to savage anyone that shows weakness. Shane Warne and Steve Waugh accepted money from bookies and got a slap on the wrist. Our Hansie got hounded, went through a trial and ultimately lost everything. Ex President Clinton denied everything, went on trial, found guily, still remained president and people in his country still love him and lastr I heard got a statue made of him. How come none of the wild dog reporters don’t hound the woman as well and slander their names, last I heard prostitution was ilegal and last I heard both the adulterer and aldulteress were guilty. Seems like we love to throw stones and judge wiuthout the judgement coming back. Just a thought but how many reporteres writying on this story have got skeletons in their closets, might be quite a huge artical if we had to list them all. Last thought: Had steve waugh, shane warne or bill clinrton been south africans they would still be hounded and all three would have been lambasted by all and lost their positions immediately

  12. Derek Says:

I agree with you up to and including point three. I believe his whole motivation is to make money, and I don’t for one minute believe that dear old wifey has had her proverbial heart ripped out. I very much doubt whether a bit of nookie on the side for Joost would have worried Amor at all. I am still trying to figure out where Charmaine “leg over the bar” Gayle, or is it now Weaver? fits in. Isn’t she married (excuse my ignorance) what with the married surname and all. Even if she isn’t, what is her motivation to now stand in line and confess to the world that she is a clandestine slut who once fell for the charms of our latest beau in holey underpants. I could carry on for hours, but I need to go and puke

  13. Anri Says:

Wake up people!!! No one can walk on water!! Your comfortable carpet can be ripped from you anytime.

  14. V Says:

Hey, you forgot to menion the P.I. he hired.

  15. ZimZam Says:

Yes! Talk about a stage-managed performance! Deny, deny, deny, whilst still finishing off the book… Confess and apologise to wifey when book is being published. Stage the grand performance just after sending copies of the book to all the media houses (on a Sunday, nogal). Get wifey to conduct \’interviews\’ a.k.a. promotional junkets. Wait for the 7000 english books to sell-out and then the grand finale ….. roll out the Afrikaans batch!! And then re-pay Bolhuis his R750k :-0

  16. Mel Says:

leave the man alone, what he did is wrong but it is his business so people should just butt out of it,it is sensation that people are looking for got and get it elsewhere.
There are other people on this earth that do alot worse than him. He lied yes but ask yourself this question if it was you what would you really do i mean really do. But leave the man alone i am no fan of his but i do think that it is his business have people nothing better to write about or talk about.

  17. Natasha Says:

    Leave them alone!
Get someone else to report on… I mean can you be honest and say that you have never stuffed up in your entire life? I don’t believe that…

Give the celebrities a break! Let them be and try to salvage their marriage.

I suggest to all Celebrities… you start digging into the past of reporters…
I CHALLENGE YOU!!! And then we will see who is perfect…..

  18. Malcolm Says:

So, so, so, so true. Thats how all celebraties go down. Cause big scandal then they want to do all these worthy causes. He might even want to support a home or fund for Abused Woman…
Maybe he done it for these purposes; More fame, money and greed…

  19. HATERS Says:

ok the bra caught on k@k but jo give a dog a bone. South Africans seem thrive on others bad luck ek se. SICK SAD NASTY

  20. Dee Says:

Jenny I agree with you, these woman are just as much in the wrong as Joost. What kind of woman would knowingly destroy a family and hurt those little children. I feel for Amor and her children with all my heart.

  21. Nik Says:

JOOST SHOULD BE APPROACHED TO PRESENT OUR VERY OWN SOUTH AFRICAN VERSION OF CHEATERS

  22. Lucy pearl Says:

I think he made a mistake like anyone else. Most of the people who commented about this story, giving negative comments have probably also made mistakes they regret. It’s just that they are not publicised. Imagine if your life mistakes were shown to the world.

And besides its got nothing to do with us, and I don’t think we need to be the judge of anyone’s life considering that we are all human. Humans make mistakes. And no one is a judge on anyone.

  23. ProudlySA Says:

I think its really time to leave Joost and Amor. For them it is already difficult to rebuild their lives.

  24. Landie Says:

I feel sorry for every one involved. The kids are the only ones who did not hurt anyone in this whole mess but they are going to have to suffer because people that are supposed to be adults could not behave themselves. I hope they can work things out, it’s easy for us outsiders to point fingers or say that he should be foregiven. Only the Lord can help him and his family now. Praying for you all

  25. gerard Says:

may all be a marketing ploy to sell the book,
    sold out in first day!!

  26. Jacqui Says:

I agree both Joost and Amore are media-sluts! Why if she is so hard done by was she being interviewed on Monday moring on Jacaranda Radio. Any woman with self respect would have declined to comment!

You did miss one point though - when is Amore’s next awful CD due for release, does it co-incide with some awful local soapie Christmas Tour? Is this going to make all the people who feel sorry for her buy a copy so that J&A can corner the market on the new must have christmas presents?

If Joost was that sorry he would have kept it between himself and Amore, no one else has to know. Those poor kids of theirs will grow up and be given a copy of that book to read by ‘friends’ when they are the totally inappropriate age - who will protect them then?

Both of them are now the laughing stock of this country! At least Natasja had the comon sense to leave Steve (although I dont know why she married him in the first place) and protect her kids from the media fall out.

  27. Ed Says:

Dear Gareth and to a lesser extend Natasha, your swipe at Christians exposes your ignorance rather than making new discoveries. Christians do not belief they cannot sin, or that they are perfect, and nowhere do they claim it. Its a sticker which non believers attach to Christians. I sin every day, in fact often every day. I am human, no matter how close to the example set by Jesus I try to live, I falter. But I take my sins to God and ask for forgiveness. See the blue sky, the son and love around you my friend :-)

  28. Karen Says:

@ProudlySA. We’d love to leave them alone. It’s just that they push themselves in our faces all the time. Any bets on how long before Amor ‘tells all’ to the Huisgenoot? In return for some cash? These people looooove the spotlight. They don’t care if it’s good or bad - at least it’s publicity.

  29. Samantha Says:

I also slept with Joost….oh no, forgot….we did not reveal all and his tell all book is only PARTLY tell all. The other revelations have been kept for the follow up book so he can make even more money! Why say you confessed to all and then have more skeletons surface??? Why indeed…

  30. PM Says:

    ‘Shi**ing Myself’ by Joost venerial.diesease.Westhuizen.

  31. Bron Says:

Amor, walk away. If someone loves you, they dont make you cry. He will do it again, somehow he doesnt seem sincere.

  32. Neil Says:

ProudlySA, if that was the case why did he go onto 94.7 and she on 94.2.

  33. TCB Says:

Would the same coverage have been given if it was Joe Soap?
Just let the whole story die a natural death and rather worry about things that matter and that we, as a nation, CAN CHANGE AND MAKE AN IMPROVEMENT ON.

  34. FOTA Says:

Please. I feel sorry for his wife but this man is an #rsehole of note. His wife should take to the hills right now. It might hurt now but will save a mountain of hurt later.

  35. Raymond Says:

Off-course it is all about the money. People would not even have notice he had a book out if this story was not given such big media attention. People should not play to this tune and stay away from the book. Don’t buy it, don’t read it. Amor should be an actress. She’s gooood. We will see the big smile on her face again when the book pays for her new Mercedes.

  36. Frikkie Says:

Just leave Joost and his family alone, just because he is a celebrity, everyone makes a big fuss about it, this kind of stuff happens EVERY day to other family’s right across the world.

  37. Mel Says:

What the public do not seem to realise is, the more you focus on someone, the more energy you give them, the more power they have. You go Joost !! I still think you are hot and I hope things work out for you and Amor.

  38. Louis Arthur Says:

Spot on Renee! Careful now you might get tea thrown at you! Or maybe brandewyn & coke. What a sensation seeking silly couple they are! They were touted as the Becks & Posh of South Africa! Ha-ha,what fools.

  39. Sandy Says:

I urge everyone out there NOT TO BUY HIS BOOK … it is DISGRACEFUL that through all of this, he is more concerned about making up his lost fortunes by selling a book full of his lies !!!!

  40. Annie Says:

If Joost had not of been caught out he would still be deceiving his wife. Funny how when one is being ‘naughty’ then its all hunky dory but when you are caught out - then its I made the wrong choices, I’m sorry blah blah blah blah blah. A leapoard never ever changes its spots. Why is Amor so stupid and blind. LEAVE THE JACK ASS! and salvage the little bit of dignity that you still have.

  41. Dev Says:

All you guys what the big deal ,this guy took drugs and had sex, is that so bad that he has to be crutinised by all of you , I bet one you sometime or the other did ar made some kind of mistake , nobody is perfect , this is their lives and it suppose to be personal, why are you all making it so public. Besides it is his live that he destroyed not anyone elses.

So grow up you SA and get a job instead of bad mothing another human being, he is human after all

  42. Bridget Says:

Joost has a new sponsor “Naaitjie - joost did it”

  43. Mel Says:

YOU GO JOOST !!!!!! WE LOVE YOU

  44. Lionel Says:

Typical of a couple who are driven by fame and money. They come across as this innocent and adoring couple that regiously go to church every Sunday and live Gods way. What a farce and people acually fall for this. We all sin but the difference is that Joost and the other pea from the same pod, Steve Hoffmeyer, both vehemently denied ‘bekryping die kat in die donker’ (Afrikaans phrase). When I saw the video of Joost I had no doubt that it was him. Oh, and I agree totally with Renee Moodie, that this situation has been turned into a publicity stunt and not before long Joost and Amor will be happy together everafter and all will be forgiven when the millions start rolling in. He definitely does not deserve forgiveness from the public he has vehently lied to, but then there are those who cannot wipe the sh*t from their eyes and only see what they want to see or believe in his pathetic sypathetic call for foregiveness. The ones that we should feel sorry for, are the children.

  45. Amelia Says:

LET THOSE WHO HAVE NO SINS,CAST THE FIRST STONE.WE ARE HUMAN AND YES WE FALTER AT TIMES.I JUST WANT TO ENCOURAGE AMORE TO STAND BY HER HUSBAND AND TO SUPPORT HIM.PRAY TO GOD THAT HE HELP YOU TOFORGIVE AND TO STRENGTHEN YOUR BOND AND MARRIAGE.YOUR HUSBAND NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT RIGHT NOW.BE THERE FOR EACH OTHER AND DONT LET ANY OF THESE NASTY COMMENTS GET TO YOU.WHAT GOD HAS PUT TOGETHER LET NO MAN TAKE APART.BE STRONG

  46. Prince Charles Says:

Well, well. Christianity is the smoke-screen -If we call a spade a spade, why do we call Joost ‘hurt’ or ‘under-pressure’? Keeping ones ‘jewels’ is a matter of mind over matter -and to him it seems nothing mattered. Marriage is so ‘taken for granted’ these days, and Joost being a public persona makes the worst stunt! Of course the fabric of life is shaken -he has to pay for it and NO book-deal or tv/radio broadcast can help absolve him…He needs to be taught a lesson -too long these media dogs have howled and growled -How the might have fallen…!Using the adage of ‘no-one is perfect’ seems NOT useful at all here!

  47. Thoko Says:

Amor what made you think a man who cheated on his wife with you would not cheat on you. At least his first wife was decent enough to walk away but I dont think you would do that becuase this is normal for you. Shame on you.

  48. Cheryl Says:

Leave Joost alone? Frikkie are you nuts??? Sure infidelity happens everyday and generally the cheaters get caught and either admit or deny their transgression, but Joost denied everything not to spare his wife and family any shame and suffering, but so he could tell all when his book came out. He embarrassed and hurt a woman he supposedly loves, the mother of his children, for PUBLICITY!!! He deserves everything he gets, he’s shameless and I hope she divorces that nasty piece of trash and sues him for every penny he has. Disgusting is what he is!

  49. Delia Says:

well said. What a poephol! He probably thought (and thinks) he was untouchable - could do what he wanted, whenever he wanted… Ek is mos ‘n MENEER! No wonder his first wife was so unsociable - she must have known the ‘real Joost’.

  50. Moejoe Says:

Famewhores - thats all they are. I mean how convenient to stage this whole confession just as the book is about to be released? Can anyone remember how when the video surfaced Joost went on about how the guy in the video had a larger penis than him? Idiot. I see no one is stressing about the drugs issue? Joost is a role model (perhaps not by choice) and to see him snorting coke like its something he does all the time is just a poor example to the youth. He should be charged with something and should withdraw with immediate effect (together with his gaseous wife)

  51. Gareth Pike Says:

    And I quote:

“I JUST WANT TO ENCOURAGE AMORE TO STAND BY HER HUSBAND AND TO SUPPORT HIM.PRAY TO GOD THAT HE HELP YOU TOFORGIVE AND TO STRENGTHEN YOUR BOND AND MARRIAGE ”

In caps, nog al. Why should she forgive him? Is divorce un-Christian? Is he worthy of staying in the marriage? Is it OK for men to cheat as long as they say ’sorry everyone!’ a few months later? Would Jesus have cheated, if he had been married? Doubt it…

  52. Cheryl B Says:

    And another point.

revisit business contract with Amor after a year to see if we can both make more money on the ‘tried so hard but couldn’t make it work’ divorce

  53. Andre Says:

Give Joost a job in Zumas Cabinet. He has all the right credentials now!

  54. Paul Says:

Christian or not Christian, everybody makes mistakes and it’s not for us to judge him, her or anybody else. These things happen everyday (probably happened to many ppl that have posted opinions here)and him being famous doesn’t make him any more perfect than anybody else. Let’s focus a little closer to home and let them sort their lives out. Peace.

  55. Annonymous Says:

What about the “exotic dancer”??? She knew they were married!!! and now she is the poor victim. Leave him alone. He was man enough to admit it to the world after denying everything for months. Leave them alone and grow up!!!!

And you Renee Moodie , you are the worse hypocrit I have ever met. Think about this. I know your little dirty secrets. So before you put shit like this on the web, think twice!!

  56. Andre B Says:

joost can still be forgiven cheating on amore, but a srpingbok using cocaiane…age-nee

  57. Tersia Says:

And they compare themselves to the Beckhams ! The Beckhams are claasy compare to these 2, they are TRAILER TRASH !

  58. gefo Says:

The one who is without blemish may throw the first stone!
Shame on all of you to pretend being 100 persent better! Are these the ones which are called the Phariseers?

  59. Charles Says:

Who cares who he did or why, when and how!!! Worry about your own lives and what you do or who with or why.

  60. Annonymous Says:

They didn’t call themselves the Beckhams, the “so called fans” called them the Beckhams!!!

And so what if he used cocaine. If you live in the spot light there are allot of pressure on you the whole time. He was man enough to come out with the truth. He appologized to the whole of South-Africa last night on Kwela!! Leave them alone!

  61. MrsO Says:

When the donkey feels too well, he goes ice scating. (old German proverb) And there are people taking advantage of these socalled donkies. It happens everywhere - look to Bill Clinton, to name but one. There are those who supply the opportunity, who supply the drugs. They do it for something. Good business, is it not? Now it is good business and later one can make again money with blackmailing, and perhaps one has a slave who might do favours as well. So, the ones sucking up earn threefold. And celebrities do not realise this. Leave the guy and his wife alone! They fell into that trap.

  62. Annonymous Says:

    To GARETH PIKE
Would Jesus give a comment? Or would Jesus say “Forgive those who trespass against us”?
    little something to think about.

  63. Willem Says:

The to do list person hit it on the nail. This what celebs do these days (and goverment employees). You bugger up badly and then write a book about it to make some more money and in the case of the gov guys get a golden handshake of a few million as well.

  64. karen Says:

If Joost had ANY backbone, he would have declined to make any comment in public and he would have handled this matter privately, and faced the consequences of his decisions. It is his private life afterall. To me, it\’s almost like he is trying so hard to gain public sympathy when he should be focusing on other more important matters, such as his relationship with his wife - she must be soooooo humiliated.

  65. Gareth Pike Says:

Jesus would possibly say - ‘Sheesh Joost man; why didn’t you have the backbone to just be honest in the beginning?’ The LYING is the thing that stinks, as much as the cheating business. Anyway it’s not up to Jesus, God or South Africa to forgive the guy - the only people who own the right to that decision are his poor family. I don’t care what people say about the whole saga, just as long as they don’t buy that book!!

  66. Jenni Says:

If you are without sin…cast the first stone!!

  67. Skata Says:

Imagine if Zuma came clean, like Joost. I reckon our toes would curl, listening to that one.

  68. Rene Says:

There an Afrikaans song that says it all for me… (http://www.rsatalent.com/Lirieke/GHI/Huise%20van%20glas.htm):

  69. caz Says:

joost u woke up to late, the coffee has gone stale, the sad thought is when this thing dies down you are the one who will be remembering what u did wrong and u have to live with the guilt and the lies and the pain u caused.

  70. mirielle Says:

What did Amor think would happen as she had an affair with him while he was still legally married?? If he cheats with you he will cheat on you!!!!!!!And when they got engaged, she made some dumb comment about how her mother said she should marry an Afrikaner guy as they are the best..how’s that working for you now AMOR???????

  71. maya Says:

my brothers lived by this law if its given on a silver platter why not meat is meat and a man must eat? come on people just because he is famous you want to reck his life leave him alone please he is human God made us we are not perfect only He is

  72. Mike Says:

GIVE THE GUY A BREAK !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  73. Gilz Says:

Even negative publicity is still publicity.

  74. Joe Says:

SO WHAT… LET HIM LIVE HIS LIFE…

  75. Nats Says:

To blatantly lie like that and pretend that you are innocent amazes me, and to actually now try to make money out of this sick ordeal is incredible. Stupid people will buy this book! Amor can’t say anything as she also committed adultery when she hooked up with him when he was still married to his first wife.

  76. Kobus Says:

Leave him alone he has come clean what about the unknown ones.Is this only because he is famous you all licking your lips. You are still a icon Joost.

  77. James Says:

What a lot of hogwash! It doesn\’t matter who else has skeletons in the cupboard; the Van Der Westhuizens sought thge lime-light through the media, sucked on it for all they worth, sold themselves as celebs, and now when the feet of clay are exposed, they want to be left alone and forgiven. Amore was messing around with Joost whilt he was married to his first wife; she can\’t complain now that she is getting a taste of her own medicine. Joost has had his snout, and other parts, in the trough and got away with everything yntil now. Neither of them are really sorry for what happened, they see it as another ride on the celeb gravy train. There is no real regret! Joost answered all the questions in his interview with prepared replies. Those were not his words! I suggest that the media and the public and ignore them and they will fade away. I for one will be buying his Johnny-come-lately book!

  78. paul Says:

There appears to be a trend here …. Eugene Terre’blanche was also caught out with his underpants which were full of holes!!

  79. James Says:

Oops! Typing error. My previous posting should read .. ” I for one will NOT be buying his Johnny-come-lately book”.

  80. yah-yah Says:

i am going to say that if the book is as boring as Joost, then it is not worth the money to buy. Does he honestly think the south african public is so stupid. i don’t.

  81. ZimZam Says:

As a tall, bald doctor on tv quotes: \"If he\’ll do it with you, he\’ll do it to you\". Amor should\’ve known better.

  82. rina Says:

Can the media please stop with the doings and screwings of others. I have a beautiful life storie, but it is not about sex, so the media thinks the magazines will not sell. The first prize for celeb. trying to polish there images in the media goes to Steve, Joost and Amore(sorry you are irritating the public we do not care about you you are all wanna bees ). Natasha you are a true lady, i wish you all the best for your future and your kidz

  83. bob Says:

Joost is the perfect host for Tiger Woods celebrity infidelity golf tournament
